Who is Richie Hughes?

Richie Hughes is a noted speaker in a wide variety of settings. Whether he ministers in a church service or challenges a thriving business staff on the other side of the country, Hughes’ topics always revolve around his life message, Col. 3:23, “Whatever you do, do it with all your might as working for the Lord, not for men.” Church consulting is a passion of Richie’s, and God has provided numerous opportunities for him to travel the world pouring into church leadership and staff.

"Coach"

For 15 years, Richie Hughes was known as “Coach.” As a high school basketball coach and NBA scout for the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons, Hughes loved the competitive aspects of the game. “The only thing I enjoyed more than winning was the opportunity to impact and mold young lives.” Hughes’ last game as a career coach culminated in winning the Georgia State High School Championship in 2004.

Church Strategist

After his coaching season ended, he accepted the position of CEO / Executive Pastor at Free Chapel in Gainesville, GA. Hughes saw God do amazing things while serving in this new chapter of his ministry. The church grew exponentially from just over 2,700 in attendance each week, to over 14,000 in five short years.

Free Chapel expanded into Orange County, CA, and the Kingdom Connection Broadcast was rated in the top 5 among all religious programming according to Nielsen Ratings. Free Chapel and Jentezen Franklin ministries collectively produced numerous best-selling books and CD’s with artists like Ricardo Sanchez and Israel Houghton. “It was a tremendous honor to be a part of the miracles God did in our time at Free Chapel.”

Hughes’ went on to publish his first book in 2011 with Charisma House Publications. One of his writings was published in 2009, in the “Chicken Soup for Soul- Inside Basketball” edition. Author Pat Williams, Vice President of the Orlando Magic, heard of the experience Richie had while working a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, and used it in the book alongside other greats as John Wooden, Mike Krzyzewski, Pat Riley and many others.
