You Are God's Masterpiece

Your Words are Killing Me!

Recently, I found myself facing a battle. Not just any battle, but the kind that makes you hurt all over, sick at your stomach and wonder if it is going to dramatically change things. By nature, I would rather not argue or defend myself or my viewpoint unless absolutely necessary. Reflecting on the avoidance of an unneccessary confrontation, I felt led to share these thoughts: When faced with confrontation:

1. Do not be quick to respond! You WILL say something you regret. Whether verbal or via email, WAIT!....................................................................................................................................then respond.

2. Do not go for the throat! Many people pass right over the possibilities of truly "being heard" by saying or typing something so raw that they eliminate the possibility of a healthy conversation that could actually be productive.

3. Make a genuine attempt to see why this person feels the way they do. You do not have to agree with them, but there is a cause and effect somewhere that has placed you in this moment and there are always TWO sides to every story. They may have just cause.

4. Apologize! Rest assured that we are all imperfect and while we may not feel that we have done anything wrong, someone is hurting and we have the opportunity to make it better or worse. "I'm sorry" sometimes means, "I'm sorry".........(you feel that way) unspoken.

Proverbs tells us to "Esteem others higher than ourselves" and to "Consider others needs."

Watch your words- they truly do kill. Emotional death can cause physical harm and even death.
